Damar Hamlin Injury Update: Has He Recovered from His Injury?

Damar Hamlin Injury Update

“Damar Hamlin had a heart attack after getting hit during our game against the Bengals. “His heartbeat was fixed on the field, and he was taken to the UC Medical Center for more tests and care,” the Bills said in a statement released early Tuesday. “Right now, he is under sedation and is in critical condition,”

On the field, Hamlin, who was 24 years old, received CPR. Hamlin’s teammates surrounded him, keeping him from being seen by the public.

Many people were crying and praying while Hamlin was being treated on the field by the team and outside medical staff and local paramedics.

The ambulance took him to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center. Later, Hamlin’s teammate Stefon Diggs went to the hospital to see him while fans from both teams gathered outside, holding lit candles and praying.

What Happened with Hamlin?

Hamlin was hurt when he tackled Bengals receiver Tee Higgins on a play that seemed normal and wasn’t particularly violent.

Joe Burrow had thrown the ball 13 yards to Higgins, who was running with it when he hit Hamlin in the chest with his right shoulder. Hamlin then put his arms around Higgins’s shoulders and helmet to pull him down.

Hamlin got to his feet quickly and appeared to adjust his face mask with his right hand. About three seconds later, he fell backward and lay still.

Hamlin was down for 19 minutes while he was being treated by doctors. WXIX-TV in Cincinnati reported that in addition to CPR, Hamlin needed an automated external defibrillator (AED) on the field.

What’s Damar Hamlin’s Condition Now?

Damar Hamlin showed up at Super Bowl LVII on February 12, 2023, about six weeks after the accident on the field that could have killed him. He wasn’t playing, of course. The game was between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Kansas City Chiefs.

But Hamlin got a big round of applause from the crowd because it’s likely the first time he’s stepped onto a football field since January.

Hamlin was let out of the hospital on January 11, 2023, nine days after he passed out on the football field. According to a statement posted by the Buffalo Bills on their official Twitter, Hamlin will “continue his rehabilitation at home and with the Bills.”

“Damar Hamlin has been released from Buffalo General Medical Center/Gates Vascular Institute, a Kaleida Health facility in Buffalo, N.Y. Hamlin was admitted on Monday and went through a full medical evaluation as well as a series of cardiac, neurological, and vascular tests on Tuesday.”

The Bills picked Hamlin in the sixth round of the 2021 draft. As a rookie, he played in 14 games.
