Raquel Welch, an actress from the US, has died at the age of 82. She is often credited with paving the way for action heroines in Hollywood movies today.

The famous person died peacefully Wednesday morning after a short illness, according to her manager.

In the 1960s, Welch played a bikini-wearing cavewoman in the movie One Million Years B.C., which made her a sex icon around the world.

She also got a Golden Globe for her part in The Three Musketeers, which came out in 1974.

Welch was born Jo-Raquel Tejada in 1940. She grew up in California, where she won teen beauty contests and later became a local weather forecaster.

During a short time in Dallas, Texas, the divorced mother of two worked as a model for Neiman Marcus and as a cocktail waitress.

Soon after she moved back to California in 1964, she got cameo roles in Elvis Presley’s movies A House Is Not a Home and Roustabout. This was her big break.

Two years later, she became well-known for her roles in the sci-fi movie Fantastic Voyage and the fantasy movie One Million Years B.C.

Welch only had a few lines in the latter, but promotional stills of her wearing a skimpy two-piece deerskin bikini made her the most popular pin-up girl of the time.

Despite her public image, she has always been uncomfortable with how her body is shown. She once said, “I was not raised to be a sex symbol, and it is not in my nature to be one.”

“The fact that I became one is probably the cutest, sexiest, and luckiest mistake I’ve ever made,” she said.

In 1978, she sang a duet with Miss Piggy, a famous puppet, earning her a tribute on Wednesday’s episode of the popular comedy show.

“We’ll never forget our great friend Raquel Welch, one of our favorite guests on The Muppet Show,” the Disney show tweeted in her honor.

Paul Feig, who played her on Sabrina, the Teenage Witch, says he had a good time collaborating with her.

The late singer was “kind, witty, and a great superstar,” he tweeted, adding, “We’ve lost a true legend.”

The actress’s children are the actor Damon Welch and the actress daughter Latanne “Tahnee” Welch.
