If you have misplaced your smartphone, the only method to find it again is to use Locate My. If you’ve misplaced your Apple device, there is no other service that can help you look for it or keep track of it.
Set up Find My on the iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch that you use with your AirPods so that you can easily locate them if you misplace them. Updating to the most recent version of iOS, iPad OS, or macOS is required before searching for lost AirPods.
Your AirPods will also be searchable at iCloud.com. Internet functionality and user experience may vary across AirPods models.
You won’t be able to utilize Find My to track down your misplaced AirPods if you forgot to activate them beforehand.
Locate Your AirPods on A Map
If you’ve misplaced your AirPods, the Find My app on another iOS device or Mac computer associated with the same Apple ID may help you track them down. If you lose your AirPods Pro (2nd generation) charging case, you can track it down on a map and find it quickly.
Locate your AirPods in the Find My app
- Open the Find My app.
- Select the Devices tab.
- Choose your AirPods. Under each device, you see a location or “No location found.”
Turn on The Find My Network
Even if your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch isn’t connected to Wi-Fi or a cellular network, the Find My network may still be able to show you where your AirPods (3rd generation), AirPods Pro, or AirPods Max are.
- On your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, open the Settings app.
- Select your name, then select Find My.
- Select Find My [device], then turn on Find My [device].
- Turn on “Find My network.”
Play a Sound on Your AirPods
You can use the sound feature on your Apple smartphone to locate your missing AirPods if they are nearby and linked to Bluetooth. The second version of AirPods Pro adds a sound that can be played from the charging case to aid in locating it.
- Open the Find My app.
- Select the Devices tab.
- Choose your AirPods from the list.
- Tap Play Sound to play a sound that gets louder gradually

If Your AirPods Are Offline
You may notice “No location discovered,” “Offline,” or the last known position of your AirPods if they are out of range or need charging.
Although you won’t be able to use sound to locate them, you may be able to find out how to travel to the place where they were last linked. Any of your iOS devices or Mac will alert you as soon as they reconnect to the internet.
