Warner Bros. Is Making Plans for New Lord of The Rings Movies.

Warner Bros. Pictures is giving the “Lord of the Rings” movie series a new look.

The new heads of the studio, Mike De Luca and Pam Abdy, have committed to produce “several” films based on the well-known J. R. R. Tolkien books, according to Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav, who made the announcement during the company’s earnings call on Thursday. New Line Cinema at the WB will put the projects together.

Global box office receipts for Peter Jackson’s first three “Lord of the Rings” films totaled approximately $3 billion. Jackson’s following three “The Hobbit”-based films brought in the same amount of money.

Jackson nonetheless claimed in a statement to Variety that Warner Bros. and Embracer “have kept us in the know every step of the road” along with his two key “Lord of the Rings” co-workers Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens.

We’re eager to chat with them more to learn what their future intentions are for the franchise, stated Jackson, Walsh, and Boyens.

Freemode, a division of Embracer Group, made the deal for the rights to adapt books like “The Lord of the Rings” and “The Hobbit.” The pact will be called Middle-earth Enterprises.

Notably, De Luca and Abdy left MGM last year to become the heads of Warner Bros. After Amazon bought MGM, they left the company. The tech giant owns the TV rights to “Lord of the Rings” and made a single season of TV for a gut-wrenching $450 million in 2022.

After recently buying Middle-earth Enterprises, Freemode CEO Lee Guinchard is excited to work with New Line Cinema and Warner Bros. Pictures to bring J.R.R. Tolkien’s unique world back to the big screen in new and exciting ways. “We know how important these works are, and together with our partners at New Line Cinema and Warner Bros. Pictures, we want to honor the past, look to the future, and stick to the highest standards of quality and production values.”

De Luca and Abdy said that New Line “took an unprecedented leap of faith to bring the amazing stories, characters, and world of ‘The Lord of the Rings’ to the big screen… but for all the scope and detail lovingly packed into the two trilogies, J.R.R. Tolkien’s vast, complex, and dazzling universe remains largely unexplored.”

First-year projects and timelines were not immediately made public. The first Jackson trilogy featured Elijah Wood, Ian McKellen, Liv Tyler, Viggo Mortensen, Sean Astin, and Cate Blanchett. This group of three movies was nominated for 30 Academy Awards and won 17, including best picture for 2003’s “The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King.”

Warner Bros. has a lot coming up. The second quarter will end with the release of “Shazam! Fury of the Gods” in a few weeks. “The Flash,” by Ezra Miller, is the first movie of the summer. “Barbie,” directed by Greta Gerwig and starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling, is one of the most-anticipated movies of the season. In “Meg 2: The Trench,” Jason Statham will face a prehistoric shark for the second time, and “Blue Beetle” from DC Comics will be released by New Line.

Timothee Chalamet will have a big hit at the end of the year, first in “Dune: Part Two” and then in “Wonka,” the story of how the candy man got started. The musical “The Color Purple” and Jason Momoa in “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom” will end the ear.
