After a few days of complaints about the high fees on The Cure’s $20 tickets, including complaints from the band’s lead singer Robert Smith, a report says that Ticketmaster will give back some of its fees.

Rolling Stone said this evening that Ticketmaster is giving a discount on its fees, which more than doubled the price of a ticket to see The Cure.

“After talking more, Ticketmaster agreed with us that many of the fees being charged are too high. As a gesture of goodwill, they have offered a $10 per ticket refund to all verified fan accounts for lowest ticket price transactions,” Smith tweeted.

“And a $5 per ticket refund to all verified fan accounts for all other ticket price transactions, for all Cure shows at all venues,” he said. “If you already bought a ticket, you’ll get a refund; fees will be lower for all tickets sold tomorrow.”

In a screenshot that was widely shared on the internet, a fan bought four tickets for $20. Each ticket had a service fee of $11.65, a facility charge of $10, and an order processing fee of $5.50. That meant that the four $20 tickets that were sold for $80 added up to $172.10.

The Cure has worked hard to keep costs down for its fans. It has gotten rid of a plan called “dynamic pricing,” which raises ticket prices based on how many people want to go.

Ticketmaster has been in trouble for decades because many fans think the company charges too much.

The Cure could decide how much its tickets cost, but it couldn’t do anything about the extra fees. Their “Shows of a Lost World” tour stops at the Hollywood Bowl for three nights from May 23 to 25.
