He became known as one of the best power hitters in the game during his time with the Oakland Athletics. He was an All-Star six times and won Rookie of the Year in 1986 and Most Valuable Player in 1988.

Canseco has won the World Series twice, in 1989 with the Oakland A’s and in 2000 with the New York Yankees (2000). Canseco was the first player in the history of Major League Baseball to hit 40 home runs and steal 40 bases in the same season.

This happened in 1988. He won the Silver Slugger award four times: three times as an AL outfielder (1988, 1990, and 1991), and once as a DH (1998). He has 254 home runs, which puts him in fourth place in A’s history.

He is one of 14 players in MLB history to hit 400 home runs and steal 200 bases. Even though he got hurt a lot towards the end of his career, Canseco averaged 40 home runs, 120 RBIs, and 102 runs scored every 162 games.

He played a total of 1887 games with seven different teams over 17 seasons. Canseco admitted that he used drugs to help him play better in the major leagues.

In 2005, he wrote a book called Juiced: Wild Times, Rampant ‘Roids, Smash Hits, and How Baseball Got Big, in which he said that most MLB players use steroids. He also competed in boxing and mixed martial arts after he left Major League Baseball.

What is Jose Canseco’s Net Worth?

According to Celebrity Net Worth, Jose Canseco’s net worth right now is only $800,000. He played in MLB for 17 years and is said to have made more than $40 million, which he spent as soon as he got.

In 1990, he signed a five-year contract worth $23.5 million with the Oakland Athletics. However, the $5.8 million he made from the Boston Red Sox in 1995 was his highest pay. In 2012, Jose filed for bankruptcy in Las Vegas.

According to ESPN, the filing said Jose had less than $21,000 in personal assets and nearly $1.7 million in liabilities, including more than $500,000 owed to the IRS.

Jose has made some money back, but the way he spends money makes it unlikely that he will ever be a millionaire again.

Career in Baseball

During the 1982 Draft, the Oakland A’s picked Canseco to play in the minor leagues. His first job was with the Miami Marlins in the Florida State League. From then until 1985, he played for different teams in the Minor League.

On September 2, he played his first game in the Major Leagues for the Oakland Athletics. His career really took off after his first full season, when he won the American League Rookie of the Year award and ended the season with 33 home runs and 117 RBIs.

The next year, Mark McGwire, another power hitter, joined Canseco on the Athletics team. The two became known as “The Bash Brothers” because of how aggressively they played at bat.

Canseco did his most brazen thing in public in 1988 when he promised that he would hit at least 40 home runs and steal 40 bases the next season. He did this by getting exactly 40 stolen bases and two more home runs than the 40-homer mark.

He was the first Major League player to do this in a single season, creating what is still called “the 40-40 club.” In the same season, Canseco and the rest of the Athletics made it all the way to the World Series, where they lost to the Los Angeles Dodgers.

In 1992, the A’s sent Canseco to the Texas Rangers in a trade. The next year, a fly ball hit by the opposing Cleveland Indians hit Canseco’s cap and went over the wall for a home run. This was one of the most famous baseball mistakes of that time.

But Canseco got back on his feet and had a good season in 1994, which was cut short because of a players’ strike. He hit 31 home runs and drove in 90 runs, which brought him back to his old power-hitting glory days.

Canseco joined the Boston Red Sox in 1995 and had another good run with them until 1997 when he went back to the Oakland A’s. Canseco’s last MLB game was on October 6, 2001, 16 years after his debut.

He had been traded to the Toronto Blue Jays and then signed a three-year deal with the Tampa Bay Rays, who were called the Devil Rays back then. Jose was an All-Star six times, won the AL home run title twice, won the Silver Slugger award four times, and won the World Series twice.
