Gwyneth Paltrow, a former Hollywood actor who is now a lifestyle influencer, is being sued by a man who says she hit him in a ski crash seven years ago and then left the scene.

The accident happened on February 26, 2016, on the slopes of Flagstaff Mountain, which is part of the Deer Valley Resort near Park City, Utah. Paltrow and retired optometrist Dr. Terry Sanderson were on a beginner’s course called the Bandana Run when they crashed into each other.

Mr. Sanderson, who is 76 years old, then filed for damages in January 2019 and is asking for 0,000 for the injuries he got.

This led Paltrow to file a countersuit in which she asks for a symbolic $1 if she wins and for her legal costs to be paid.

The actor has said that the lawsuit is “baseless” and “an attempt to take advantage of her fame and money.” He has also said that “she remembers what happened very clearly.”

On Tuesday, March 21, the case was finally brought to court. Each side said the other was at fault. Court TV says that Mr. Sanderson claims that the movie star crashed into him on the slopes after racing downhill “out of control.”

He says that she hit him in the back so hard that he has “permanent traumatic brain injury, four broken ribs, pain, suffering, loss of life enjoyment, emotional distress, and disfigurement.”

In his complaint, the plaintiff says that Paltrow “got up, turned, and skied away,” leaving him “stunned, lying in the snow, seriously hurt,” without calling for help.

“A Deer Valley ski instructor who was teaching Ms. Paltrow but didn’t see the crash skied over, saw Sanderson hurt, and skied away, saying that Sanderson caused the accident,” he says.

Paltrow says in her countersuit that the instructor, Eric Christiansen, did see what happened and thought she wasn’t to blame.

She also says that she got a “full body blow” in the accident and had to quit skiing for the day out of pain.

After filing the complaint, Mr. Sanderson and his lawyers held a press conference in January 2019 where they said that seconds before the crash, he had heard “this just hysterical screaming like… King Kong in the jungle or something.”

He said that afterward, he had been in and out of consciousness and that his “ribs hurt a lot” and his “brain felt like it had been injected with novocaine.”

A reporter asked Mr. Sanderson how a “petite” woman like Paltrow could have hurt him, a man who is 5’8″ tall and weighs 160 pounds. He said, “The speed explains it.”
