Laila began boxing when she was 18 years old. She told Diane Sawyer on an episode of “Good Morning America” that she wanted to become a professional boxer. At first, she was inspired by Christy Martin.

Even though her father eventually agreed with her choice, he was worried about her safety at first. In 1999, she played April Fowler in her first real match. Under normal circumstances, not many people would have cared about the fight.

But because Laila was Muhammad Ali’s daughter, the story got a lot of attention. Laila knocked out Fowler, giving her her first win. Against Shadina Pennybaker, she won with a TKO. Ali won nine straight fights in the end.

This helped her get a lot of fans, and many of them wanted her to fight Jacqui Frazier-Lyde, who is the daughter of Joe Frazier. Fans finally got what they wanted in 2001 when the two boxing daughters fought each other.

Ali won by a majority vote, even though both women were hurt very badly. Ali had a broken collarbone and a bloody nose when he left the ring. The match was seen as a big step forward for women’s boxing, and it was the first time two women fought in the main event of a pay-per-view match.

Ali then took a year off and beat fighters like Shirvelle Williams and Suzette Taylor when he came back in 2002. Later that year, she beat world champion Valier Mahfood and kept the IBA title. She also got the WIBA and IWBF belts.

Ali and Mahfood fought each other again, and the same thing happened. During this second fight, however, Laila got hurt badly, including a deep cut on her eyelid and a bloody nose.

Christy Martin was the person who made Laila want to become a professional boxer. They fought in 2003. In the fourth round, she knocked out her idol. In 2004, Laila knocked out Nikki Eplion again, which let her keep the world title.

Later in 2004, Ali fought and beat Monica Nunez. He then beat Gwendolyn O’Neil to win the IWBF Light Heavyweight title. She once again won the second fight with a knockout. In 2005, there were more wins.

First, she used a TKO in the eighth round to beat Cassandra Ceiggar. Next, she beat her bitter rival Erin Toughill and won the World Boxing Council title by stopping the fight in the third round.

After Toughill made fun of Ali’s father, Laila said she would “punish” him. Ali finally beat Sa Sandell by knocking him out in the fifth round. Laila’s career had started to slow down by 2006. She started by saying she would go on a world tour and fight Ann Wolfe again, but the fight never happened.

She instead fought Selley Burton that year and won by TKO in the fourth round. In 2007, she fought Gwendolyn O’Neil again in South Africa and won with a TKO in the first round. At the end of her career, she had 24 wins, no losses, and no ties.

Out of her 24 wins, 21 were by knockout and 3 were by decision.
