How To Start Recording the Screen on Your iPhone
All iPhones with iOS 11 or later already have the ability to record what’s on the screen. But before you learn how to record your iPhone’s screen, make sure the screen record button is in the Control Center. If it isn’t there, add it. It will be easier and faster to start recording if you do this.
- Swipe down from the top right corner of your phone (if you have an iPhone X or later) or swipe up (if you have an iPhone 8 or earlier). (iPhone 8 or earlier).

How To Record Your iPhone’s Screen

You can make a video of every swipe, tap, and sound on your screen for as long as the recording lasts by using the screen recording tool. It’s just one of the many iPhone tricks that are sure to make your life easier.
- To open the Control Center on an iPhone X or later, swipe down. On an iPhone 8 or older, swipe up.
- Tap the button for Record.
- The clock in the top left area of the screen will turn red after a three-second countdown. If you have an older iPhone, you will see a red bar at the top of the screen.
- To close the Control Center, tap the screen. Now, both the video and the sound are being recorded on your phone’s screen.
- When you’re ready to stop recording, tap the red clock or bar at the top of your screen and then tap Stop. You can also swipe—or s/u in texting terms—to open the Control Center and tap the Record button again.

- Tap the Record button and hold it down.
- Tap the microphone button at the bottom of the pop-up screen, then tap Start Recording. You’ll see the timer start.
- Tap twice to close the Control Center and leave the screen.
- Now, every time you start to record, the microphone will turn on. If you don’t want to use your microphone, you can turn it off by going back to this screen and pressing and keeping the microphone icon.

How To Open Your Screen Video and Change It
Want to watch your new video and change it? You can find it in the Photos app on your iPhone’s Camera Roll. From there, you can use the iPhone’s editing tools to add effects, trim the beginning or end, and save the video as a new clip.
- Tap the movie in the Photos app’s Camera Roll album.
- In the top right part of the screen, tap Edit.
- You can see the video’s progress at the bottom of the screen.
- Tap and drag the arrow next to the Play button to the right to cut the beginning of the video. The color should be yellow. Tap and drag the line on the left to cut off the end.
- To watch the new version, press the Play button. Keep moving the arrows until you’re happy with the result.
- You use the same buttons to change the filters as you would edit a picture in the Photos app.
- Tap Done > Save as New Clip when you’re ready to save the modified video.
