One year after Depp’s defamation case against his ex-wife began in Fairfax County, Virginia, he and Amber Heard are in very different places.
The decision, which came out on June 1 after a six-week, controversial, live-televised trial, was more in Depp’s favor. Heard was found guilty on all three counts of defamation for her 2018 opinion piece about coming forward with abuse claims.
She had to pay $10.35 million in damages, and he had to pay $2 million because she won one of the three claims in her countersuit. Both tried to get out of it, but in December, they came to a deal: Heard would pay Depp $1 million, which Depp would then give to several causes.
A person close to Heard told the sources that the actress “couldn’t wait to leave the U.S. with her daughter” after the trial. She is the mother of a girl named Oonagh Paige, who just turned 2 this month.
“She moved to Spain, where she has more freedom. The source says, “The trial was so stressful for her that she just wanted to leave the country and start over.” “She is happy to be working and making movies again.
She was tired and upset about how the trial went. She thought she had been wronged.” “This is all behind her now, though,” the person says. She is full of new energy and focused on doing the things she loves.
A person close to Depp says that since the trial, he has been “focused on work.” Last year, after the trial, Depp went on tour with his close friend and musician Jeff Beck, who died in January at the age of 78.
In the new French-language film Jeanne Du Barry, he plays King Louis XV opposite Mawenn, who is also in the film and is the director. On May 16, the film will be shown at the famous Cannes Film Festival.
“As soon as his tour was over, he went straight to work on Jeanne Du Barry. “It was hard to film, but Johnny is excited about his return,” a source says. “He thinks it’s great that this historical drama will be shown for the first time at Cannes.”
“Johnny has been living in Europe since the trial,” the source says. He’s been going out on dates, but he doesn’t have a girlfriend. He is also set to direct the upcoming movie Modi, which is based on the play Modigliani by Dennis McIntyre.
This summer, he is playing Europe with his rock band Hollywood Vampires, which includes Alice Cooper and Joe Perry. In November, before the deal news came out, a source told sources that Heard spent most of her time living in Europe, where she could “just be a mom.”
At the time, this person also said, “The trial wore her out. She missed her daughter. Her main goal is to raise her daughter. She is with her girl every day. They walk around, go to parks, and spend time with their families.”

The actress will turn 37 on April 22. She will be in the second to Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, which will come out in theaters on December 20. In December, when she reported that she and Depp had reached a settlement, Heard said in a long statement that the court case had “ruined my life as I knew it.”
She also said she had “lost faith in the American legal system.” She also said that she had “used up almost all of my resources before and during” the trial, which she said was more about “fame and power” than “reason and due process.”
“Now I finally have a chance to get away from something I’ve been trying to get away from for over six years, and on terms, I can agree to,” she said at the time. “I have made no admission. This is not a sign of giving up. There are no limits on what I can say or do with my words going forward.”
