On November 29, 1935, in Laurel, Mississippi, Rose Diane Ladner gave birth to Diane Ladd. Although his parents’ hometown was Meridian, Mississippi, Ladd was born in Laurel while the family was there for the Thanksgiving holiday.
Mary’s mother, an actress and homemaker, and Preston, a veterinarian and cattle product salesman, raised her. Diane and her mom co-starred in the 1992 movie “Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me.” Ladd is related to poet Sidney Lanier and playwright Tennessee Williams and was raised in a Christian Catholic home.

In 1971, CBS’s The Secret Storm welcomed Diane Ladd to its cast. She replaced the first actress to play Kitty Styles throughout the show’s many years on the air. Later, she appeared in Chinatown, directed by Roman Polanski and released in 1974.
Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore’s Flo earned Ladd a nomination for Best Actress in a Supporting Role. The TV series Alice, starring Polly Holliday as Flo, was based on that film. Holliday was replaced as Isabelle “Belle” Dupree by Ladd after her departure from the TV series.
In 1992, she co-starred with her own mother, actress Mary Lanier, in the independent screwball comedy Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me as a flirtatious, aging Southern belle.
