But how does one achieve that? Thankfully, it’s quite easy. You can put two photographs side by side using the Instagram app or other apps. Let’s check all the ways.
1. Using Layouts in the Instagram App
The Instagram app has a native feature to arrange two photographs side by side on both Android and iPhone. Follow these steps:
- Open the Instagram app on your phone.
- Tap on the (+) sign at the bottom and go to Story.
- Tap on the Layout icon from the sidebar and tap on the four-box symbol to see the various layouts.
- Select the side-by-side arrangement from the list.
- You will observe that the screen has been partitioned into two equal frames. You have the option to upload an image from your collection or take a fresh photograph for every frame. To do that, hit the Gallery button located at the bottom of the screen, then choose the image that appears on the left.
- Next, select the image for the right side by tapping on the Gallery button once more.
- To enlarge each image, use the zoom-in and zoom-out gestures. Alternately, hold it between two fingers and manipulate the image to change what appears on the screen. Press the checkmark symbol.
2. Using Photo Sticker
- Using the Photo Sticker, Instagram offers an additional native method for arranging two photos side by side. To include more than one photo in a single Instagram story, follow these steps:
- Tap the (+) symbol at the bottom of the Instagram app, then choose Story.
- Tap the Gallery button to take a new picture or select an already-taken one to upload from your gallery.
- After the picture appears on the story edit page, hit the Sticker symbol at the top and select the Gallery (iPhone) or Plus (Android) icon.
- Choose the image you want to appear to the right of the one that is currently there.
- Now, change the size of both images by making the pinch-in and pinch-out motion. Additionally, you may shift the photographs by holding them with two fingers so that they look adjacent to one another. Or, tap on the photo to modify its shape.
- Your single photo comprising two pictures side-by-side is available on Instagram. You may either publish it to your story or a post by downloading the image.

3. Using Instagram Layout App
If Instagram’s built-in solutions don’t satisfy your needs for aligning two photographs side by side, you should give the Layout app a try. It is essentially the same Layout function found in the Instagram app, but it comes with additional options like border, flip, mirror, and so on.
- Install and open the Layout from Instagram app on your Android or iPhone.
- Select the photographs that you want to keep side by side.
- Now, from the layouts at the top, select the side-by-side layout.
- Make the necessary modifications to the final photo and tap on Save to download the picture on your phone.
4. Using Google Photos
Next, you can use the famous Google Photos tool to maintain two photographs side by side.
- Open the Google Photos app on your phone. The software is pre-installed on all Android phones but you will need to download it on your iPhone.
- Long press on the first photo and then tap on the other photo to pick it.
- Tap on Add to and choose Collage from the list.
- Select the side-by-side arrangement. Use the pinch gesture to zoom in and out of the photo. Or hold and drag the photo to adjust its position.
- You can also edit individual photographs. For that, tap on a photo and select the Edit option at the bottom.
- Finally, tap on Save to get the image on your phone from where you can add it to Instagram.

5. Using the InShot App
None of the preceding approaches let you modify the background or the border style when you maintain photographs side by side. This is when a free third-party program like InShot comes to our rescue.
- Install and open the InShot app on your Android or iPhone.
- Tap on the Collage option on the home screen of the app.
- Select the photographs that you wish to retain side by side and press the Checkmark symbol.
- Now, you will find several intriguing editing tools at the bottom. Tap on Border to alter the border style of photos. Likewise, you can adjust the canvas size by tapping on Canvas. Alter the image background by tapping on Background.
Additionally, by tapping on a specific image, you can crop, rotate, flip, or replace it. As usual, to zoom in and out of an image, utilize the pinch gesture. To adjust an image’s size after selecting it, drag it over the selection circle.
- Select Save to save the image to your phone, after which you may post it to an Instagram post or story.
