Michael Joseph Jackson, born Michael Joseph Jackson on August 29, 1958, died on June 25, 2009, in Los Angeles, California. Known as the “King of Pop,” he is considered one of the most important individuals in twentieth-century culture.

His musical journey began in 1964 when he became a member of the Jackson Brothers band. A year later, he and his elder brother Jermaine took up lead vocal duties on the album. After he left, the group changed its name to the Jackson 5 and produced a string of hit songs. In 1971, he embarked on a solo career.

MJ was born in Gary, Indiana on the 29th of August 1958 as Michael Joseph Jackson On May 26, 1994, he married Lisa Marie Presley, the daughter of Elvis Presley, at the height of his fame. Following this marriage to Debbie Rowe, he had two children with her: Paris Michael Katherine and Michael Joseph Jr., while in Sydney, Australia for the HIStory Australian leg of his tour.

Three presidents of the United States have welcomed and honored Michael Jackson at the White House. Ronald Reagan recognized his humanitarian efforts by awarding him the “Presidential Public Safety Commendation” in 1984.
